Re: No Birth record, Sydney 1872 birth SOLVED !!! « Reply #72 on: Monday 10 March 14 09:35 GMT (UK) » First I must thank all the Rootschatterers who kindly gave up their time to solve my family tree problems. This is the story thus far:

1853 Charlotte Turrell/Tyrrell/Tyrill arrives in Sydney in the “Meteor” 1857 She marries John Lawrence in St Andrew’s Church Sydney (Church of Scotland) 1862 -1866 She lives with publican George Stephens in Forbes NSW and gives birth to four children, two of whom survive to adulthood (Mary Jane Stephens and William Arthur Stephens) 1871 Thomas Rice Engineer marries Elizabeth Forster. Prior to the marriage they had a still born child. Elizabeth dies soon after the wedding. 1871 Charlotte Lawrence is the informant of the death and witness ,(as friend of the deceased) at the burial of Elizabeth Forster wife of Thomas Rice, Engineer . 1872 She gives birth to Thomas Lawrence illegitimate (certificate altered from Thomas Rice) 1875 Gives birth to Charles Henry Rice. 1880 Thomas Rice engineer marries Emily Hockey. They have two daughters after 1880, but there are two more daughters born before the marriage, who are known as Rice throughout their lives. 1882 Thomas Rice drowns in the wreck of the Woniora. 1882 Thomas (jnr) and Charles Henry are placed in the orphanage ; record states illegitimate.

I don’t yet know what happened to John Lawrence, or to Charlotte after her relationship with Thomas Rice ended, but I am so pleased to have finally, after 30 years, solved the puzzle of my grandfather’s birth. Thanks again, everyone. Fran
