Ulrich Spiker, 1710-1785 ancestor of the Garrett County Spikers, arrived in Philadelphia, October 8, 1737, on the ship "Charming Polly," from Rotterdam. It is presumed that he came from Phenish Palatinate, but his ancestors were originally from Switzerland. He settled for a time in eastern Pennsylvannia, but moved into the Shenanadoah Valley of Virginia, where some of his descendants live to this day.
