BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A memorial service was held in Brooksville, Fla., on Feb. 14, 2008, for Lyndell C. (Higgins) Coumans, who died on Jan. 25, 2008.
She was born Feb. 14, 1906, in South Wellfleet, and attended local schools in Wellfleet and Wareham, Mass. She was the 10th-generation descendant of Richard Higgins of Eastham. Mrs. Coumans was the daughter of Eva and Harold Higgins, both workers at the original Marconi Wireless Site, located in South Wellfleet. She was the sister of Lorrimer F. Higgins of Wareham, who died in 1969.
Lyndell was an employee at the Department of Interior National Park Service at Cape Cod National Seashore, for which she was given a meritorious service award citation. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and the Rebeccas, active until her 99th year. She was the wife of William J. Coumans of Nova Scotia. She is survived by her nieces, Anne H. Higgins of Yarmouthport and Marcia L. Christensen of Norwalk, Calif.; many grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews; three cousins, Thomas Cosgrove, Joan Swain, and Judy Raymond; and many friends and neighbors. She will be dearly missed by all.
