Maxwell married Grace Naomie Dowling on 28 Dec 1924^[2] in East Machias. Their daughter was Gwendolyn Gray (1931 - 2017).

Maxwell died on 21 Mar 1989 ^[3][4]in Machias, Washington, Maine aged 87.
