Biography

Rebecca Longfellow was born at Machias, Maine, 10 Feb 1807, the daughter of Enoch Longfellow and Anna Bigelow; ^{[1] [2]} died at Machias, before 28 Oct 1833, ^[3] and is buried with her husband in the Joseph Getchell Memorial Cemetery at Marshfield; ^[4] married at Machias, 5 May 1825, John Hanscom, ^{[5] [2]} born in that part of Machias, Maine, set off in 1846 as Marshfield, 1803, ^[6] or 1808, ^[7] the son of Isaac Hanscom and Elizabeth Pineo; died there before 2 Apr 1844, when his will was proved, ^[8] and is buried in the Joseph Getchell Memorial Cemetery. ^{[6] [7]} Following Rebecca's death, John married (2) at Machias, 7 Nov 1833, Ruth F. Getchell, ^[9] born, 12 Jan 1812, in that part of Machias set off in 1846 as Marshfield, the daughter of John Getchell and Rebecca Berry; ^{[10] [11]} died of valvular disease of heart, exacerbated by influenza and old age, at Whitneyville, Maine, 1 Jun 1900, aged 88y 4m 19d, ^[12] and is buried with her husband in the Joseph Getchell Memorial Cemetery at Marshfield, Maine. ^{[13] [14]}
