Josiah Dean was born "Jan. 10, 1747/8" [that is, 1748 in the Gregorian calendar used today] in Plainfield, Windham County, Connecticut Colony to parents " Lemuel & Mary."[1]
Josiah married Marian/Meriam Tracy in Windham, Windham County February 12, 1769. Two names are given because there are two sequential entries with same date, but different names.[1]
They had the following children
Abigail, born in Plainfield, February 11, 1773.[1]
Meriam "daughter of Josiah & Miriam," born September 9, 1779. [1]
Meriam [spelled Miriam per Hale transcription] died April 10, 1822 and is buried in Windham Cemetery, in Windham Center, a village in Windham town, where her gravestone reads "wife of Josiah Dean, died April 10, 1822, age 76 years"[2]
Josiah Dean died 3 December 1825 in Windham, Windham County, Connecticut, and is buried in Windham Cemetery, in Windham Center, a village in Windham town, where his gravestone reads "died Dec. 3, 1825, age 78 years."[2]
Research Notes for wife MERIAM, MIRIAM, MARIAN
There is more than one possibility for Josiah's wife:
Miriam, daughter of Samuell and Esther Tracy, born May 29, 1745 in Preston, New London County. (Barbour Collection, Volume: Preston, page 200.) This Miriam is also put forth as Josiah Dean's wife in Find A Grave Memorial #31767887 for Miriam Tracy Dean. April 10, 1822 is given as her date of death, and her gravestone recites "in the 77th year of her age." This fits with the May 29, 1745 birth date - she would have turned 77 on May 29, 1822. Find A Grave: Memorial #31767887[3]
Miriam, daughter of Daniel and Esther Tracy, baptized May 26, 1747, also in Preston, New London County. (Barbour Collection, Volume: Preston, page 270.) She does fit as well. She was probably born no earlier than mid-year 1746. She would have been in her 75th or 76th year of her age, not her 77th as written on Miriam Tracy Dean's gravestone.
In conclusion, I am going to name Miriam, daughter of Samuell and Esther, as Josiah's spouse. I'm leaving this note to set out my reasoning. Additional data may, of course, verify or eliminate this selection.
