Elizabeth Scofield Hoyt was born around 1791 in Connecticut, according to numerous US census records, (1850, 1860, 1870 -- referenced in the paragraphs below).
Elizabeth may have been the daughter of Silvanus Scofield, according to A Genealogical History of the Hoyt, Haight, and Hight Families by David W. Hoyt, p. 533. The book lists the children of Elizabeth's husband, Elijah's parents, Elijah and Sally Hoyt . It gives some information about Elizabeth Scofield.

The forum at Genealogy.com has a query that list Elizabeth's children by "genealogy user":
"Their children were Merilda, Samantha, Elizabeth Ann, Angeline, George Andrew, Eliza Jane, Sarah Lodica, Caroline Cornelia, Harriet Lovina, and Emily." The same posting also questions the parent of Elizabeth /Scofield/ Hoyt: " have seen one source, the Hoyt-Haight genealogy by David Hoyt (1871), that states that Elizabeth's father was Sylvanus Scofield. However, I have found several different men by that name, probably all related, in the same Stamford, CT area. My guess is that her father is the Sylvanus Jr. born May 19, 1751, married to first Mary Griffin and second Rachel Holly." [5]
All of this information needs to be further supported and should not be taken as true at this point.[6]
There is some uncertainty about which Elizabeth Scofield is the mother of Elizabeth Hoyt, the exact date of her birth and the identity of her parents. There are several possibilities, and Elizabeth Scofield's parents are different depending on the source. Some sources say her father is "Silvester Scofield", "Sylvester Scofield" -- and in other words, the information in this profile needs more research for confirmation. >>>>R. Greenup, 25 Nov. 2016
According to the lineage chart at the "SimonHoyt" website online Elizabeth Scofield who married Elijah Hoyt on September 8, 1816, was born approximately in 1797 in Stamford, Connecticut. [7]
There is a family tree listed at "Family Search" [8] that lists multiple matching family members, dates, etc. which may be a good source of further research information. This tree lists Elizabeth /Scofield/ Hoyt's parents as Sylvanus /SCOFIELD/ and Sarah /THOMPSON/ [9]
A death certificate for a "Sarah E. Hunter" . age 81 is shown at the "Iowa, Wapello County, death records Death certificates, 1921-1929"[10] It lists her father as Sylvanus Scofield and her mother as "Elizabeth". Again, no particular reason to believe there is a connection, other than the father and mother's names and the belief by another researcher that one of their children was "Sarah Lodica".
A "George A. Hoyt" was born on 10 Jan 1819, in Derby, New Haven CT. (One of the possible children's names, born about the right time in a likely place.) [11]
The most interesting information regarding Elizabeth comes from the "FindaGrave.com" website, for the burial of Sarah L. Hoyt /Carrier/. It states that "She is daughter of Elijah & Betsy Schofield Hoyt. She was married to John S. Carrier and they are parents of Englebert, William & Charles Carrier". This is the strongest available evidence of Betsy Schofield (spelled with an 'h') and Elijah Hoyt. [12]
