Biography

Mary Butler, daughter of Richard Butler and his unknown wife, was born i 1627 in Worcestershire, England. ^[1].

Her first marriage was to John Washburn, 17 June 1655 in Stratford, Connecticut. They had one child, John. They removed to Hempsted, Long Island^[2]

Mary Washburn married second Thomas Hicks,^[2] 30 Oct 1658 in Hempstead, Queens County, New York. By 1660 ^[3]

Mary died in 1676 . ^[4]

• John Washburn b. 20 Nov 1657; married Sarah Cornell, d/o Richard, had children John, Susanna, and Mary.^[2] John deceased by 1713, when grandson John Washburn was named as a legatee to Mary's Estate.^{[citation needed]}

According to Seversmith, Mary Butler died in 1676. If true, Gilbert and Mary are children of Mary Doughty.

There were two contemporary Mary Butlers, both daughters of Richard Butler in Connecticut.This family lived in Stratford, Connecticut. Mary died in New York about 1712/13. The other Mary lived in Hartford and Wethersfield; married Samuel Wright and died 1689.
