(1853-1932) Notes for Elizabeth McCutchen BERRY NOTES159 for Elizabeth McCutchen Berry : DIED - MARCH 31, 1875 OF PNEUMONIA IN LIVINGSTON COUNTY MISSOURI MRS. E.M. JETER, AGED ABOUT SIXTY-THREE YEARS 1405 She was born October, 1812, near Winchester, Franklin County, TN. While in her youth her parents, Samuel and Anna Berry, emigrated to Menard county, IL where she grew up. In her seventeenth year she professed religion and united with the Concord congregation. She was married to W.G. Jeter March 13, 1832. In 1837 they moved to Livingston county MO. She was taken ill on the 24th and gradually grew worse until released from suffering by death. The eulogy on the dear departed is that she was a devoted Christian companion and mother. She was sorely tried by afflictions for many years, but great patience was a development of her Christian heart, Especially in her last sickness. She had been a most faithful witness for Jesus for 45 years. The Savior was very precious to her in her last sickness. she said she was going home, and told her friends and children not to weep. As a mother she was tender and affectionate; she taught her children to live for Jesus. As she bade them farewell, she gave them the most sympathetic and religious instruction. She died respected and esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves seven children to mourn her loss, but not as those who have no hope. She was bleat with conscoiusness and speach to her last moments. Me we humbly bor and better be under this providence of God. Dear mother, we will meet thee in heaven. J.H. Tharp (Records of J. Frank Berry, Lewis Iowa - Original in safe.)

Aug 31, 1867 OBITUARY OF WILLIAM GRIFFIN JETER Died at his residence, on 31st of August, in Livingston County, MO of Cholera Morbus. He was in his 60th year. The subject of the above notice was born in Jefferson County, KY 20 Sep 1807.; removed to IL about 1829, and the year following professed religion and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church under the ministry of the Rev. J.M. Berry. On the 13th of March 1832, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth M. Berry, daughter of Samuel Berry, a ruling elder in the Concord Congregation of the Cumberland Prebyterian Church. Bro Jeter, not long after his marriage removed with his family from Menard County, Il to Fulton County in the same state, where about the year 1838 he was elected to the office of ruling elder. He served the church in this capacity in Illinois until 1867 when he with his family removed to Livingston County, MO. Here he and the family united with the Chillicothe congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. the congregation becoming disorganized during the late civil war, he and the family united with others in forming the New Hope congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, organized by the writer about a year and a half since. - Bro Jeter was elected ruling elder in the last mentioned congregation, which he served faithfully until his death. Bro Jeter was a man who dearly loved the Church of Christ, and was always ready to labor for its interests and welfare. But he is gone from the labors of the church militant to the rewards and bliss of the church triumphant. He truly lived the life of the righteous, consequently he could die his death. His last and was peaceful and triumphant clearly evincing to his family and friends that he met the grim monster without fear. He remarked to the writer a few moments before his spirit took flight, that his trust was in Jesus and that Jesus had promised dying grace. Bro Jeter leaves an aged companion and seven children to mourn his departure. To his bereaved companion we say: Trust still in that blessed Jesus in whom your now sainted husband, while on earth, confided and that the time will not be long when you shall meet on the blissful shores of eternal deliverance. to the children we would say: Imitate the pious example of your departed father; live the life of the righteous and your last end may be like his.
