Note

Note: My mother was a protected child who grew up in Manchester, NH. She and my father had known each other for years, and at one time she had dated his brother Fred. She wanted to work in a store when she was of high school age, and her father told her "no, but you can help your mother." She and her brother Henry were the only children and were very close. They used to go to York Beach, ME, on a vacation every year, and from there up to Peacham where their grandfather had a home and farm.

After high school my mother attended Simmons College in Boston, and from there went to Columbia University in NY. She became a dietician and later worked at a hospitable in Burlington, VT.

She loved Vermont and when it came time to marry she chose the home of her grandfather in Peacham.

My parents lost a baby in 1920, one year before I was born. We lived in St. Johnsbury, VT at that time. After the death of my father, my mother moved out to Mentor, OH, to be near our family. She loved the children and would be at our home frequently. We were devastated when she was killed by an automobile when she crossed Center Street to mail a birthday card to my Aunt Mary.
