Amelia (Stanley) Stanley Marchioness of Atholl was born in Lancashire, England.

Lady Amelia Anna Sophia Stanley was the daughter of James Stanley, 7th Earl of Derby and Charlotte de la Trémoille.[1] Her father noted in his diary that his daughter Amelia Anna Sophia was born on 17 July, 1633.[2]

She married John Murray, 1st Marquess of Atholl, son of John Murray, 1st Earl of Atholl and Jean Campbell, on 5 May 1659.[3] They had issue:[4]

After the death of her husband, Simon Fraser attempted to abduct her daughter Amelia but in failing that, he and his father abducted the Lady Dowager and forced her through a marriage ceremoney.[6][7]

She died on 22 February 1702/3 and was buried in Dunkeld Cathedral, Perthshire, Scotland.[1]
