The last documented appearance of James Tow was January 29, 1814, when he deserted from Bunch's Regiment of Doherty's Brigade of the Army of East Tennessee. James's son, Reuben, was born on June 2, 1819, likely in Tennessee, so James would have lived until at least late 1818. There are undocumented claims that James died October 5, 1841, in Allen County, Kentucky, but no proof.
