Biography

William St.Clair of Herdmanstoun granted a charter to Mary Maitland, daughter of Sir Richard Maitland of Lethington, of 110 merks payable from that barony, on 4th May 1569.[1]

In a charter confirmed at Falkland on 9th August 1586 there are relationship details including that Marie is Richard Maitland's daughter plus that she is the wife of Alexander Lauder of Haltoun and that he in turn is the eldest son of Sir William Lauder of Haltoun.[2]

The Testament dative of Marie Maitland "sometime wife of Alexander Lauder of Haltoun in the parish of Ratho, sheriffdom of Edinburgh, who died in January 1596, [was] given up by her relict spouse as father and lawful administrator to Richard, James [or Jean?] and Helen Lauder, their lawful children."[3]
