William's will of 1584 mentions his late wife, Thomasine, whose late husband was William Tyrrell. (Thomasine & William were both Tyrrell - and were distant cousins); His last " well-beloved" wife was Mary. He mentioned daughters; Elizabeth, Jane and Susan (all under 21 years old), and son, William, (preferred name "Drake"). Mary (Drake) was the mother of "Drake", Alice and a child (male) not yet born at the time of the will. [2]
William Playters of Sotterley also mentioned, by name, his brothers, John, Henry and Thomas; his widowed mother, Elizabeth - and his sons, Thomas Playters and William/"Drake" - future husband of Katherine Tollemache (Playters-10).
The will also mentioned "son-in-law" Thomas Tyrrell, son of his third wife, Thomasine, who is suggested by William as a husband for either of his eldest daughter, Elizabeth Playters, or her sister, Jane Playters.
Information from Ipswich Record Office informs us that Thomasine, wife of William Playters of Sotterley, died 8 May 1578 and that she was one of the daughters and co-heirs of Edmund Tyrell of Beeches, Essex.
