Hezekiah Root was born in Hartford Connecticut about 1648, and moved with his father to Northampton as a boy.[1] He is listed among the freemen of Northampton on February 8, 1678.[1]
He married Mehitable Frary, about 16 years his junior, on July 12, 1682.[1] They had 4 children:[2]
Mehitable, born October 31, 1683, and died about three weeks later.
Benjamin, born April 20, 1686
Mehitable, born May 27, 1688
Mercy, born 1689, and killed about 15 years later in the Deerfield raid of February 29, 1704.
Hezekiah died at Northampton on September 29, 1690,[3] and Mehitable married second, Jeremiah Alvord. She died at Deerfield in 1698, before reaching age 35.

Three Hezekiah Roots were identified by James Pierce Root in his Root Genealogical Records, 1600-1870 : comprising the general history of the Root and Roots families in America, 1870. These Hezekiahs are often confused.
