Alexander Bruce was indeed born in 1691 but the EDINBURGH baptism entry reads: "Captain James Bruce & Marie Swintoun a.s.n. Alexander"

Then it lists the witnesses to the baptism: "W. Alexander Swinton of Mersington one of the Senators of the College of Justice, Major Robert Bruce, Capt. John Moncrieff of [illegible] younger, James Low (?) merchant, Capt. Charles Erskin, Capt. [Wm?] Gordon [illegible]" See NRS OPR Births 685/1 Edinburgh, p. 252 of 297. [I've added the commas for clarity.]

He also married Mary Balfour in Edinburgh, 6 August 1714, but posted his banns in Clackmannan on 30 July 1714. See NRS OPR Marriages 466/Clackmannan, p. 555 of 675. I've downloaded images of each record so you can be assured that the information is accurate. Best wishes, K. MacQueen
