Brigadier-General Alexander Bruce was born in 1691. He was the son of General Brigidier James Bruce and Mary Swinton.[1]
He married Mary Balfour in 1714.
He fought in the War of Spanish Succession, in Flanders. He gained the rank of Major in 1715 in the Regiment raised by Glasgow to support the Hanoverians.
He died in 1747

Then it lists the witnesses to the baptism: "W. Alexander Swinton of Mersington one of the Senators of the College of Justice, Major Robert Bruce, Capt.
