Obituary: McNairy County independent., May 05, 1922
The many friends and relatives in this and adjoining counties will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Dora Atkins, which occurred at her home here, Monday evening about 6 o'clock, resulting from gall-stone.
She had been ill about two weeks, but her condition did not become critical until Thursday night, when her recovery was thought to be hopeless. Friends, however, watched through fearful anxiety, until the end, Monday evening.
Mrs. Atkins was about 63 years of age, the widow of the late P. Atkins, and a member of one of the most prominent families of the county, and before her marriage, was Miss Dora Ingram. She is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Cornelia Whittaker of Memphis, and Mrs. Mattie Combs of Henderson, both of whom were present when she died, and one brother, J. Q. Ingraham of Jackson. Besides these, four sons, Leo, Eugene, J. P. and Quincy, all of whom are living near here, and numerous other relatives. . This entire community laments the departure of this beloved woman, and extends the most tender sympathy to the bereaved ones.
Funeral services were - held Tuesday, and interment was at Box's Chapel cemetery.
