Nicholas Bowes was born in 1706[1] in Boston, Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Nicholas Bowes and Dorcas (Champney) Bowes. He married married Lucy (Hancock) Cooke aka Bowes. He came from Stoddard, Bowes, and Hancock ancestry.[2]
Nicholas Bowes graduated from Harvard College and was ordained on July 15, 1730. He was called to be the spiritual leader of the newly incorporated city of Bedford, MA in 1730 and "remained the leader of the town's religious and civic life for twenty-four years." He was provided by the town a sixteen acre parcel of land adjacent to the meeting house. His home became known as "Domine Manse". This building still exists as the office of Brown and Brown Attorneys of Bedford.[3]
He passed away on 12 Dec. 1755[4] in Western (now Warren), Worcester, Mass. It is described as "Boews, Nicholas, late pastor of the church in Bedford, having been engaged as chaplain in the army at the Westward was violently seized with his last illness in this place and died Dec. 12, 175_, in 50th y."[5]
