Descendant
Descendant of Thomas Ford (1590-1676)..

He made valuable contributions to the agricultural development of the state, particularly in connection with the dairy industry. As proprietor of the Maple Hill Farm in New Haven county he owned and conducted one of the best dairies in the Naugatuck valley. He attended Storrs Agricultural College, and then completed a course in the agriculture department of Cornell University at Ithaca, New York. On returning to Connecticut he took up dairy farming, which he devoted his remaining days. He settled on the old homestead, the Maple Hill Farm, situated in the East Farms district. He became extensively engaged in dairying and ranked in time as the leading milk producer of the Naugatuck valley, keeping one of the finest herds of Holstein cattle in the state, numbering more than one hundred head. For many years he was a leading member of the Waterbury Milk Producer's Association. He was one of the trustees of the Connecticut Agricultural College and was manager of the state farm at Georgetown. He was also a director of the State Dairymen's Association and was vice president of the Connecticut Holstein Breeder's Association. He held membership in the Mad River Grange, of which he was past master and past lecturer. He was a member of the Cheshire lodge of Masons and of Nosahogan Lodge, I.O.O.F., of Waterbury. He also held membership in the Trinity Episcopal church of Waterbury and was superintendent of the Mill Plain Sunday school. He took especially deep interest in the cause of education, serving as a trustee of the schools for a number of years.

His untimely death was caused by the bursting of a steam pipe on his farm, whereby he was severely burned. He was buried in Mill Plain cemetery.
