Alfred Dougherty married the 16th of November in 1883 to Permelia (Thompson) Powell, who was born in Illinois, and they were residing in Scott County, Illinois in 1900/10. Alfred claimed he was born in August of 1843 per the 1900 census. In this record he listed his father born in Tennessee (likely) and his mother was born in Missouri. His marriage record and the 1880 census were taken into consideration to estimate his birth year.
Note: An 1880 census record and marriage record indicate Alfred may have been a good bit younger than he claimed to be in census records, perhaps not wanting to appear much younger than his wife. By the 1910 census, they are both claiming to be 62 years old with previous records indicating otherwise.
