Isaiah Josiah Ivy Sr. was born about 1775 in Marlboro Co., S. Carolina. Over the years he and his family migrated all their way to Texas and beyond. Mississippi Choctaw records on the civilized tribes Dawes card file # 1 022516 (also see file # 1439897 and 1439898 file 1297 - 1451 28 cases) and film # 1022517 is the Indian files of the grandchildren of Isaiah Ivey when he lived in Wayne Co. and Clark Co. Mississippi. His Indian name was Little Bear and he was listed as 1/2 Choctaw. The members of the Ivy family were rejected because of the lack of information on Isaiah membership in the tribe and filing under the 14th section of the 1830 Dancing Rabbit Treaty.
For our family records it is documented in my files that both Megrirt and Susan Ivey are the children of Isaiah Ivey. I have in my possession 3 papers published records stating that Megrirt is a brother to the children of Isaiah Ivey. Because these records show Mary to be the mother of all the children and these children are of a difference of 32 years, it might be supposed that not all of the children are the children of Mary. But there is no document showing the marriage of Isaiah and Mary, nor other record that show that Mary is not the mother of all the children, because many records in the southern states are still not available and many were lost or destroyed in the Civil War and other wars, we can only document these records as available and makes research very difficult to fit a family together with proff.

We have heard forever that our Ivy/Ivey/Ivie family is Choctaw. Several older people say our great-grandfather Isaiah Ivey, Jr. knew our Choctaw lineage and knew how to prove it. He was born in February 1822 in Wayne County, MS and died in November 1905 in Lampasas County, TX. An older man in the family states that Isaiah Ivy, Sr. was one-half Choctaw.
Isaiah Ivy, Jr, in his old age, wouldn't reveal his Choctaw lineage to his children and grandchildren because he did not want them moving away to Oklahoma to receive tribal land in 1902. Isaiah Ivy, Sr. was a son of James & Mourning Ivy, and their children were born in South Carolina. They applied for land as Mississippi Choctaws and were denied. |
