Drury V. Womack was born about 1803 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He was the son of Josiah Womack and Comfort Lnu. He passed away about 1841 in Jackson County, Alabama.
Josiah and his family, including Drury, left North Carolina after 1810. They were probably in Marion County, Tennessee for some years and left there after 1820. Drury was in Warren County, Tennessee in 1824 where he entered for a land grant on 5 July 1824. A Drury Womack is on the Tax List in White County, Tennessee in 1825. There was another Drury D. Womack in the area but he was too young (about 19) to pay a poll tax, so it is probable this is our Drury Womack.[1] He is next found on the 1830 census in Franklin County, Tennessee.
Drury left Franklin County left soon after 1830 and was in Jackson County, Alabama by 1834. Oldest son, William, was born about 1829 in Tennessee. Next son, Rufus, was born about 1831 and on 1850 census it is stated he was born in Alabama. This may not be correct.
It is more likely Rufus was born in Tennessee. There is certainly a gap between his birth and next son, Charles, who was born in 1837 in Jackson County, Alabama. This gap might be partially explained by travel from Tennessee to Alabama. There is no evidence indicating the presence of Drury and family in Alabama until his land purchases in September 1834.
Birth
No birth record has been found. Drury was the oldest known son of Josiah and Comfort. His next younger brother was born October 1807. 1830 census gives his age as 20-29; 1840 census as 30-39, birth year range 1801-1810. Drury is on the Poll Tax List in White County, Tennessee in 1825. A male had to be at least 21 to pay a poll tax. Estimated birth year 1803/1804.
Marriage
Drury married Margaret Balch, probably about 1828. Oldest son, William B. Womack, was born August 1829.
Children
According to census records Drury and Margaret had five known children: William B., born 1829; Rufus, born about 1831; Charles R., born about 1837; Rebecca, born about 1838; an unnamed son who appears on the 1840 census (age 0-4), born 1836-1840. He does not appear on the 1850 census and is presumed to have died young.
Death
No death record or burial site has been found. He is on the 1840 census in Jackson County, Alabama. His widow, Margaret (Balch) Womack, married Caleb M. Walls about 1842/1843. Their oldest child was born in 1844. They are listed together on the 1850 census. Estimated death year 1841.

Grant No. 362; Grant Book 1, Sec. 1, p-117.
Drury Womack enters 50 acres of land in the County of Warren, State of Tennessee on both sides of Barren Creek beginning on a red oak on the East side of said creek running North thence West thence South thence East to the beginning for compliment including his improvement. D. Womack, Lo.[cator] Plat Book 1, p-51, Survey made 1824.[2]
Josiah and Comfort are still in Rutherford County. In their household are 2 sons and 4 daughters under the age of 10. The two sons are most likely Drury V. and William R. Womack. The daughters have not been identified.
Drury and his parents have not been found in 1820. If they were in Marion County, Tennessee with his grandparents, William and Lucinda Womack, no census records now exist. 1820 records for several counties in Tennessee, including Marion, have been lost.
