Biography

Jemima Crockett Was born about 1763 in Augusta County, Virginia. The 1850 Federal census list Jemima's place of birth as North Carolina. The name of Jemima's parents are unknown.

Jemima Crocket married John Bivins on 18 Sep 1779 in Mecklenburg, North Carolina, USA [1]

Jemima's husband, John Bevins made his last will and testament on the 11th of March 1818; and the will was proved in May 1818 in Mecklenburg county, North Carolina. The abstract of John Bevins will reads as follows: "Being weak and low, I give my wife Jemima Bevins the whole benefit of my plantation to raise the children, all farming utensils, two horses, a third of the cattle, sheep and hogs, one years provisions for my family, and all household furniture. If any child marries, what they receive at that time is to be counted as part of their inheritance. Abraham and Thomas are to hold the land and property already given them Exrs: Steven and Abraham Bevins. Wit: John Rea and John (X) Duffy. Isaac Alexander, CMC"[2]

Jemima is listed as head of household in the 1820 Federal census in Mecklenburg county, North Carolina.[3]

Jemima is listed as age 85, and born in North Carolina in the 1850 Federal census in Marshall county, Tennessee living in the household of her son-in-law Levi Cochran.[4]

Jemima does not appear in the 1860 Federal census. The Find A Grave site for Jemima gives her date of death as the 18th of November 1853; however, there is no photo of a tombstone and no sources are given for the date of death.[5]
