Biography

Rev. Charles Hotham (b. c. 1615 - d. c. 1672),[3][4] was the Rector of Wigan from 1653 to 1662.[1][2] He was the son of:

  • Sir John Hotham, 1st Bart.,[3]
  • and Anne, dau. of Ralph Rokesby ["Rokeby"], Esq. of Doncaster, Yorkshire.

He was the brother of:[5]

  • William
  • Durant Hotham, Esq. of Lockington, Yorkshire.[3]
m. Frances, dau. of Richard Remington, Esq. of Lund.

Charles was a Nonoconformist who, "was a fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge, and rector of Wigan until he was ejected after the Restoration. He then went to Bermuda."[1]

Marriage

Charles was married to Elizabeth Thompson at Humbleton, Yorkshire, England on 15 September 1656.[4] She was the daughter of Stephan Thompson, Esq. of Humbleton, Yorkshire.[6]

m.2 Mildred, dau. of James Cecil, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, wid. of Sir Uvedale Corbet, 3rd Bart., of Longnor, Shropshire.

The fourth baronet succeeded his cousin Sir John Hotham, 3rd Bart. on 25 August 1691.[1]
