Pg. 21 "Captain Elbert G Sexton was one of the last men in the county to operate a gin and press, continuing to operate until the 1850's when there was so little cotton grown that it was impractical." (Date is incorrect - should be 1870's or 1880's)
Pg. 117 "Elbert Sexton - born 1831 in Stewart County, son of Tillman and Matilda Weston. He married in 1853 Mary A Randle and they had six children; she died in 1870. He married secondly Mary Tomlinson in 1872. In 1882 he was elected clerk of the county court. In 1861 he enlisted as a private in Co. H, 50th Tenessee adn rose to Captain. He also served Stewart County as a magistrate for twelve years and trustee for eight years." (Goodspeed, 1318)
Pg. 70 "The 50th Tennessee built the log huts at Fort Donelson in November 1861 and went into winter quarters there. On January 19,1862 the 50th Tennessee was sent to Fort Henry but returned to Fort Donelson in ten days."
Co. H was enrolled November 28, 1861 at Fort Henry and was headed by H C Lockhart...followed by Elbert G Sexton."
