Biography

Life in Boston

It is told that when Wesley her biological father returned from working out West, he did not accept his newly born daughter Jean as his own.

Per census records, she was sent to raised in Boston with Grace's sister Bertha and her husband Edward in 1911 at the age of two in Portland Maine.^[1]

At the age of 11, she was still listed as a Davis and as Bertha and Edward L Brown's niece, but by the age of 21 she appears to have been adopted as she was listed as Jean D Brown, taking on her aunt and uncles last name (as well as being listed as their daughter). ^[2]

Marriage

First Marriage

in 1935 Jean married Martin Curran (a divorced musician married at age 20 to Mary H Dobson) at the age of 27 in the city of Rochester, New Hampshire.^[3]

Jeans mother's maiden name was Brown, and coincidentally her aunt Bertha married a Brown. Edward L Brown is actually a descendant of Malcolm and Sarah (Love) Brown. Grace and Bertha are descendants of their son Hezekiah, and Edward is a descendant of Hezekiah's brother Joseph Brown and Amy Emma (Neil) Brown. This would have made Edward and Bertha second cousins (I think...).

Five years later, her and her husband were residing in her mother's (Bertha) residence with Bertha's brother Harry Brown. ^[4]

Second Marriage

Her second marriage to Roger D. Colby occured two years later on Saturday, 7 Mar. 1942 in Portland Maine when she was 34. ^[5]

In 1960 when Jean was 50 she was living in Portland Maine USA with Roger who worked as a purchasing agent. ^[6]

Death

Jean died at the age of 93 February 11, 2001^[7][8]
