George Clay Campbell served in the Confederate Army. He enlisted on 24 May 1861 at Gallatin as a in Pvt. Co. "C", 7th Tennessee Infantry Regiment C.S.A. He was wounded on 31 May 1862 within enemy lines. He served in Col. Robert Hatton's Regiment. Lucinda was born in Huntsville, Alabama about 1841. Her father was born in Tennessee, and her mother, who was said to be a Cherokee Indian, was born in Virginia. At that point in history, in order to own land, one needed to be an Indian. We do not know if this played into the decision to marry or not, but it is good speculation!
