Biography

Captain Benjamin Oatman, son of George and Ruth (Wooster) Oatman, was born 1755 in Ripton, Connecticut.

Benjamin served in the Revolutionary War and was a private in Capt. Jonas Galusha's company, Colonel Herrick's regiment for alarm service in 1780. He settled on a farm at Adams Center in Jefferson County in 1807. He married Bethia Smith, who died 28 Feb 1848 at age 93 years and is buried in the Honeyville Cemetery with her husband. Benjamin died 3 Jan or 1 Mar 1816 at Adams Center, at age 60 years, and was buried at Adams State Road Cemetery, Honeyville, Jefferson County, New York. His memorial has a photo of his headstone and links to those of family members.[1]
