Thomas Curtis married Polley Maffitt, daughter of John Maffitt Sr. and Sarah Whitaker, on 31 January 1821 at Burke, North Carolina; John Maffit, Jr., bondsman; Jno Burgin, witness.[1][2]

On 8 November 1863, the Baptist Church of Christ at Choestoe, then in session, "do hereby license our beloved Brother Thomas Curtis to preach the Gospel of Our Blessed Redeemer.
The August 12, 1865 minutes of the Choestoe Baptist church recorded "a complaint against Bro. Curtis for drinking too much and other unbecoming conduct. . . Agreed to lay over of case of Bro. Curtis till next week." No futher entry regarding this incident.
Thomas M. Curtis moved to Fairplay District, Fannin, Georgia, circa 11 November 1865; "Bro. Curtis called for a letter of dismission [from the Chostoe Church], which was granted.
He and Mary (Polly) Maffit appeared on the census of 7 June 1870 at Morganton P.O., Fairplay District, Fannin, Georgia, page 380, occupation farmer, real estate valued at $350, Lydia and her family lived with them.11[5]
Thomas M. Curtis and Mary (Polly) Maffit appeared on the census of 8 June 1880 at Fairplay Twp., Fannin, Georgia, occupation farmer, 1 daughter and 2 granddaughters.[6]
On 9 May 1885 Thomas M. Curtis sold land at Fannin, Georgia, to Eliza Curtis for $50 and loving affection, approximately 134 acres of land near Cutcane Creek and the house thereon.13
He died between June 1885 and December 1885 at Fannin, Georgia; buried at the Curtis Family Cemetery at Cutcane; cemetery inscription only shows the year.14,15,16[7]
His estate was probated on 28 January 1886 at Fannin, Georgia; Petition of Rebecca Curtis, widow of Thomas Curtis, who departed this life 1885 with no minor children neither Thomas nor Rebecca is a known person.
