George Russell Cousins of Fredericton
There are at least three George Russell's, all born within a few years of each other in Fredericton or nearby. All are descendants of Jacob Russell UE (1744-1827) and details of their lives are frequently confused in online trees.
George Russell (bef.1816-1875). His date of birth is uncertain and different records offer a variety of dates for his birth. But the death of his father Samuel Russell in 1816 indicates that he must have been born by then. Unlike the other two George's, he remained in the area of Fredericton and the neighboring border region of Aroostook County, Maine. He is frequently shown as both the husband of Catherine Long and as the son of Jacob Russell Jr., baptized in 1825.
George Frederick Russell (abt.1827-1897), who became a seaman and eventually settled in Australia, is regularly shown to be the son of Jacob Russell Jr., although evidence is now clear that he was the son of John Russell.
This profile represents George Frederick Russell (bef.1825-aft.1910) who was the actual son of Jacob Russell Jr. and his wife Mary Elizabeth (Deforest) Russell. He settled in Washington County, Maine. Many trees list his name as George Franklin Russell, but there does not seem to be any evidence for this although he does have a son who was named Horace Franklin Russell. His eldest son was named George Russell with middle initials FW. No record of what the 'F' stands for has been found, but as an adult he frequently was known as Willis. As Jacob Russell Jr. and his wife also baptized a son John Willis Russell, this helps to confirm that this man was indeed the George Russell who was their son.
New Brunswick George Russel's in Washington County, Maine
Do not confuse this man with George Russell (1825-1911). Both of these men were born in 1825 in New Brunswick. And both settled in Washington County, Maine as adults. This man was a farmer in Crawford township whereas the other George was a shipbuilder and he settled in nearby Pembroke,
