Biography
Joseph was born in 1738, in New Hampshire. He was the son of Joseph Ashley and Anna Dewey. He moved, with his family, at about age 9 to Sunderland, Massachusetts. He was a farmer and a Blacksmith. He married Ruth Billings in 1763, in Sunderland. He was a Tori, and when the sentiments of the Revolution increased, he moved to New York, in around 1774, to avoid the strife. He died during the Revolutionary War.
