According to her obituary, John's daughter Catherine Talitha Johnson was born "near Alamo" which became the county seat of Crockett County when it was formed in 1871. Prior to that the town was named Cageville, after Lycurus Cage who founded the town with Isaac M. Johnson in 1837 while part of Haywood County. Our John may be related to that Johnson family.^[1]

(update 12/15/2016) I've found out that C.R. Johnson donated land for the Johnson Grove Church near Alamo, so this bit of family tradition may be correct.
