Biography

Daughter of Micah Brewster and Aurelia (Sackett) Brewster, Ellen is a direct descendant of William Brewster, who arrived in America aboard the "Mayflower." Ellen was born in Tecumseh, Michigan in 1849.^[1] Her siblings included:

1. Sarah G. Brewster (1846-1926)
2. Frances Harriet Brewster (1848-1912)
3. George Caleb Brewster (1851-)

Her mother died in 1851, probably related to the birth of George , and her father remarried, marrying a woman by the name of Mary (possibly Mary Simpson, 1823-1866); Micah and Mary had four children together, Ellen's stepsisters and step brothers:

1. Alvira Brewster (1856-)
2. Josephine Brewster (1857-)
3. John Brewster (1859-)
4. Robert Brewster (1862-)

There is an indication that Mary passed away in 1866 and that Micah married a third time, marrying another woman named Mary, with whom he also possibly had a child, another stepbrother:

Ellen married Jerry Bowen in Clinton, Michigan on December 28, 1870.^[2] Together, they had five children:

1. Don Howard Carlton Bowen (1871-1961)^[3]
2. Ora Louise Bowen (1876-1963)^[4]
3. Paul Volesey Raynor Bowen (18-79-1962)^[5]
4. Ralph Glen Nelson Bowen (1885-1974)^[6]
5. Percy Albert Brewster Bowen (1890-1976)^[7]

The family made their home in Tecumseh, Michigan, a farming community.^[8][9] Her husband died at the age of in 1903, in 1903.^[10] Ellen passed away at the age of 80, in 1930, and is buried at Brookside Cemetery (section K, lot no. 51) in Tecumseh, Michigan.
