He is noticed in Ferguson's work[1], as a father, in the Baptism Register of the 1st Regiment (Old Regiment) of the Scots Brigade, then Lieutenant general Murray, when he, and his wife Elizabeth Dalzel, appear at the baptism of their daughter, Elizabeth Young, at Courtrai, United Netherlands (now Kortrijk in Belgium) on 15 December 1710.
He was a company commander of the 1st Regiment. He appears with the Regiment for the first time during the supplementation of 1709. Promoted to Captain on 18 December 1709,
in place of James Gibson, he was pensioned 1731,[2] It seems likely, but not yet confirmed, that he had married his wife in Scotland.
