Biography

Thomas was born in 1718. Thomas was the child of Thomas Choate (June 7, 1693- Aug. 22, 1774) and Elizabeth Burnham ( March 24, 1692- Jan. 23, 1737). Thomas passed away in 1798. [1]

Thomas Choate married (1) Abigail Haskell 7 Dec 1742, daughter of Jacob Haskell and Abigail Maxey. [2] He married (2) Dorothy Proctor 22 Oct 1745, daughter of John Proctor and Anna Story. [3]

Thomas Choate married, 7 Dec. 1742, (1) Abigail Haskell, daughter of Jacob and Abigail (Maxey) Haskell. She was born 27 Jan. 1724, in Gloucester, Mass. They reside in Chebacco, Ipswich, Mass., where Abigail died. He married, 22 Oct. 1745, (2) Dorothy Proctor, daughter of ______ and Anner Proctor. She was born in Sept. 1724 in Chebacco, Ipswich, Mass., where they resided, but removed about 1788 to Boscawen, New Hampshire. Mrs. Dorothy Choate died in Enfield, New Hamsphire on 14 June 1808. He was a cooper by trade. On his removal to "Choate's Hill", Boscawen, New Hampshire, he settled on High Street, where his grandson, Samuel Choate, Esq., son of Col. Benjamin Choate, resided in later times. The text used at the funeral service of Capt. Thomas Choate was, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord,," etc. - Rev. xiv 13. Mrs. Abigail Choate was dismissed from the Second Church in Gloucester on 11 Mar. 1744, and recommended to the church in Chebacco, Ipswich, Mass. Thomas Choate, served in the expedition of 1745 against Louisburg. Capt. Choate received his commission as captain, by royal authority, from Francis Bernard, Esq., Captain General and Governor-Chief over His Majesty's Province of the Massachusetts Bay, in the first year of the reign of King George the Third, 29 Oct. 1761. This royal commission was in the possession of his great-grandson, Samuel Choate, Esq., of Boscawen, N. H. He was commissioned as a Captain of a Military Company of Fort in Chebacco, in the Third Regiment of Militia, in the County of Essex, whereof Daniel Appleton, Esq., is Colonel. Thomas also was a Captain during the Revolutionary War in the Massachusetts Line.
