Mariner

Was a whaler from Vineyard Haven to southern Atlantic and Pacific.

Aboard the ship Niger from New Bedford as Keeper from Sep 2, 1856 to Aug 14, 1860 in the South Pacific.[7] Listed as age 18, Rank 3rd Mate, and residence Norridgewock, Maine.[8]

Aboard/in command of the bark Sunbeam that departed New Bedford, MA for Pacific whaling October 1860 and returned June 1864.[9]

A log of the voyage was kept by Thomas White, relating to a whaling voyage to the South Pacific Ocean. Includes descriptions of types of whales seen or taken (blackfish, blue, finback, humpback, killer, and sperm whales) and accidents at sea; and accounts, inventories of whale oil and bone, watercolors, and songs.[10]

Middle initial may be G, from a picture with difficult to read penmanship. Mother's will has middle initial of F.

Nephew M. Lloyd Hollister wrote in 1895 that he went to pick peaches at his uncle's in OH the previous summer. Assumed this uncle.

In mother's will dated Aug. 27, 1904, he was living in Torch, Ohio.
