Biography
- Roscoe G. Davenport was born on November 25, 1842 in Sidney, Maine.[1]
- He enlisted in the army on September 10, 1862 [2] and became a private in Company H in the 21st Maine Infantry [3]. His company mustered in Augusta but Roscoe succumbed to disease on February 27, 1863 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- Roscoe Davenport was a farmer with a sandy complexion, hazel eyes, and red hair. He stood 5' 9.25" tall and was single at the time of his death. [4]. His portrait can be found on the Library of Congress website within the Liljenquist Family Collection of Civil War Photographs.
