Biography

Robert was the son of John Wesley Browning and Mary Ann (Teter) Browning. He was born 2 Apr 1873 in St. Clair Co., Illinois. His family moved to Kansas sometime between 1875 and 1878, finally settling first in Beaver, Cowley Co., Kansas, then in Kay County, Oklahoma. He first married Eliza Muret 12 Sep 1898 in Kay County, Oklahoma, Eliza was the daughter of Franklin Pierce "Frank" and Elvira (Huston) Muret.

Robert and Eliza had three children before she died in 1909. John M. (b. abt. 1902), Mildred (b. abt 1904) and Marion (b. abt) 1907.

After Eliza's death, Robert married Fannie L. (Bird) Lockwood 28 Jan 1914 in Kay Co., Oklahoma. Fannie was the daughter of John Bird of W. Virginia. Robert and Fannie had one child, Mary Alice (b. 1916 or 1917. Robert died in 1953.

I am trying to trace my ancestors through any source possible since the spelling variations of my name are so numerous. the Haiflich name is pronounced HeyFlee or HeyFlich, and the spelling variations are in the hundreds, though the majority are Haflich, Ha(i)flech, Ha(i)flick, etc.

Any way, My GrandFather, Ula Martin Haiflich, married Vivian Elvira Browning. She was the daughter of John Omar Browning (b.20 Jan 1882 Cowley Co., KS d. 1 Feb 1967) and Nannie Muret. John Omar is the son of John Wesly Browning (b. 29 Nov 1839, Cowley Co., KS d. Oct 1921, P, Kay Co., OK) and Mary Ann Teter (b.24 Apr 1847, St. Clair, IL d. 16 Apr 1887). John Omar and Mary Ann were married in Cowley Co., KS on 1 Oct 1963, probably in Cowley Co, KS.

I am looking for any further information on my Great Grand Father, William Andrew Haiflich (b. Bluffton, IN d. in either KS or OK). He married May Hagan (b. in TN) 28 Apr 1895 in Neosho Co., KS. It seems that They died while my GF was still young and left him to raise his two sisters alone. Evedently, he never forgave them for this and, as a result, my father new vary little about his grand parents other than their names and birth information listed above. I did find the marriage data but it did not give me any other information.

I also have information on 5 or 6 "Willilam Haflich"s born in IN, but no definite link between them and my GGF.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, indeed, greatly needed.

This is definitely the same family, although I have some differences in the children in it. John Omar's children were my Fathers cousins and he grew up with them in OK. He knew the whole family, but not necessarily their "real" names. i.e. He said one of them was named "Roe" but I have since determined that that was a nickname for Robert.

I received an E-Mail from Mr. Stone also and wrote him back, but have not yet received a reply. My Father was Max Martin haiflich, son of Ula Martin Haiflich and Vivian Elvira Browning. Vivian died in '53 just before I turned 3, and Pop (Ula) died in 1977 in VA. b. 8/16/1898 d. 7/15/1977
