Biography

John Hill Jr., Esquire, was the son of John Hill, Sr., and his wife, Jane (Rodney) Hill. He was born in 1574 in Houndstone, Somerset, England, the region where the family had been settled since the 14th Century or earlier. John Hill Sr. had moved to Warwickshire after his marriage and it's possible John Jr. was born there. John Jr. continued the family wanderings by moving to Greater London, Middlesex, England, where he met and married his wife, Ann Marshal, b. 1579 in Middlesex, England. They were married around 1600 in London.

John Jr. and Ann (Marshal) Hill had a son, Richard Hill, born in 1605 in Islington, Greater London, Middlesex, England. He was christened at St. Mary's there in November 1605. Some family genealogies say that they had 4 sons:

1. Edward Hill b: 1601 in London, England
2. Nicholas Hill b: 1603 in London, England
3. Richard Hill b: 1605 in London, England
4. Roger Hill b: 1618 in Baltimore, Maryland [sic = Impossible]^[1]

John Hill Jr. died on July 21, 1646. Some sources say he died in Greater London, Middlesex, England, but others say he may have emigrated to Virginia and died there. It is also said his wife, Ann (Marshal) Hill died in Virginia, not England (no date given).^[2]
