Biography
The birth/baptism record for Sarah has not been located. However, the Historical Gazetteer of Steuben County, New York identifies her father as Albertus Sluyter.
Abraham Olmsted was born in Delaware County near the head-waters of the Delaware river (sic) in 1795. He came to Troupsburgh in 1819, and in 1823 he took up a farm, a portion of which is the site of the village of Rexville. He built a log house about where the present residence of D. McCormick stands. His wife was Sarah, daughter of Albertus Sluyter. They had seven children who lived to mature age, viz: Ann E. (Mrs. Dickey); William H.; Walter B.; Alexander; Maria C.; Charlotte M.; and Adelia M. Mr. Olmsted died in May, 1870. [1]
She married Abraham Vanhorn Olmsted about 1815 in Middletown, Delaware County, NY.
There seems to be some confusion about her birth. Two different dates appear on her memorial: 23 Jan 1793 and 9 Feb 1793. It states she died 15 March 1873 but all of this needs to be verified. She is buried in the Hauber Cemetery in West Union, Steuben County, NY. [2]
