Born c. 1609. Baptised 13 Aug 1609, Edinburgh, Scotland[1]
Was served heir to his father, 24 Mar 1629. Made the 1st Bart of Craigievar by Charles the First for his loyalty. Created a Baronet of Nova Scotia on the 30 April 1639. Was M.P. for Aberdeenshire 1639 – 1646. Appointed to the committee for stating the National Debt, one of the commission for planting of kirks, and valuation of tiends in 1641. One of the commissioners for conserving the Ripon Treaty in 1644, one of the Committee of Estates, 1645, one of the commissioners for selling the estates of malignants in 1646, and Sheriff of Aberdine in 1647. [2]Commanded a horse troop in the Parliamentary Army. He embraced the cause of the Coventors, raising a troop of horse for them in 1647.[3]

↑ Extracted From "Lineage of the Families of White, Warren, Birch & Forbes”, by Algernon Warren White, 1904, State Library of Victoria; "Sir William Forbes, of Craigievar, who was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia, 20 April 1639. He commanded a troop of horse in the Parliamentary Army, was M.P. for Aberdeenshire from 1639 to 1646, and held various public offices. He died in 1648 having married Bethia, daughter of Sir Archibald Murray of Blackbarony, Bart. (she remarried to Sir Alexander Forbes of Tolquhoun), by whom he had issue:
(1) Sir John Forbes of Craigievar, 2nd Bart, whence the present Baronet of Craigievar.
(2) William Forbes Esq. died unmarried.
and three daughters, the eldest of whom married Rev. John Menzies, Professor of Divinity in Aberdeen, and the second to Robert Petrie, Provost of Aberdeen, the other daughter being unmarried in 1667.
