| William (Moravia) de Moravia Ist Earl of Sutherland was an inhabitant of Medieval Scotland. Join: Scotland Project Discuss: Scotland |
William was born circa 1190. He was the son of Hugh de Moravia.[1]
Around the year 1235 William was created 1st Earl of Sutherland by Alexander II, King of Scots. Although it is questionable whether he adopted the surname "Sutherland", it can be argued that he was the first Chief of Clan Sutherland.
William de Moravia passed away about 1248 and was succeeded as Earl of Sutherland by his eldest son, also named William.
