Sarah (Varnell) Brookshire was born on January 8, 1803 in Sevierville, Sevier, Tennessee, United States. Her parents were William Varnell (~1765 - 1829) and Lydia Lanore (Sullins) Varnell (1765 - >1830). Her siblings were: John, William M, Richard Bayless, James, Isaac, Thomas, Josiah, and Lydia (Varnell) Pierce.

Sarah married William L Brookshire (~1798 - ~1862).

Their children were: James Huston, Joseph A, William A, Monimo, Arrisa, DeKalb Martha, Susannah, and Dr. Henry Clay Brookshire.

In 1850 (aged ~47), Sarah was living with her husband William S Brookshire (53), her daughter Susan Brookshire (13), her son John Brookshire (8), and her son Henry (2) .

In 1860 (aged ~57), Sarah was living with her husband, William L (61); and her son, Henry C (12).

In 1870 (aged ~67), Sarah was living with her son, Henry (22); and Melvina Brookshire (19), Rosalee Brookshire (10 months), and Francis Wollery (14).
