Biography

Isaac was born in 1806 in Meridien, Connecticut; sometime before the 1810 Federal Census, his family moved to Lewis, New York.[1] He married Sarah Lackore at Champion, New York in 1825. [2]

The family left New York as Latter Day Saints pioneers, making their way to Cleveland, Iowa, and then Linden, Missouri where where Sarah died giving birth in 1847. [2] Seven months later, Isaac married Elinor Davis and shortly thereafter they traveled to Salt Lake where they remained for the winter.[3]

In Spring of 1849 the family moved to Farmington where they resided for ten years. Many of the local landmarks including Shepard Canyon and Shepard Creek are named for them. There Isaac plurally married Anna Marie Adams in 1852.[3]

By the Federal Census of 1860,[4] Isaac was one of the founders of Richmond, Cache, Utah where he helped build the fort, log cabins, and set up his blacksmith shop.[5] Not long after, he announced his desire to move the family to California. The local LDS official objected and threatened excommunication, but Isaac departed anyway.[3] Unfortunately, he died along the journey in Leander, Nevada at age in 1867 at 61.[2]

Isaac's family petitioned and were awarded a reversal of the excommunication; he was reinstated more than 25 years after his death.[3]
