Biography

Josiah Converse, son of Josiah Converse and Eleanor Richardson was born 4 Jun 1737 in Stafford, Hartford, Connecticut Colony.^[1][2][3]

He married about 1759 to Elizabeth Lewis and settled at Wilbraham, Massachusetts.^[2][4]

They had the following children:^[2]

• Josiah, Doctor, b. 1776; d. 3 Mar 1844 in Stafford; m. Martha Hyde Alden.^[5]
• Elizabeth, m. Julius Palmer Shaw and settled in Massachusetts.
• Sarah, m. William Knight, removed to Poland, Columbiana Co., Ohio.
• Joshua, b. about 1760 or 1762; d. about 1810 in Hancock, VT; m. Mary Trask.
• Samuel, b. about 1764, removed to Vermont.
• Nathan, d. young.
• Benjamin, d. unmarried.
• Polly, m. John Show of Wales, MA.
• Lucinda, m. Capt. Robinson of Somers, CT.
• Hannah, m. John Young, settled in Stafford, CT.
• Eleanor, d. unmarried

Josiah died on 25 Oct 1814 in Stafford, Tolland, Connecticut^[2] and was buried at Stafford Street Cemetery, Stafford, Tolland County, Connecticut. His memorial has photos, biographical material and links to those of family members.^[6]
