Biography

Rachel Simon was born in 1839 in Guernsey, Channel Islands.

She married Elias Rose on Dec 30, 1856 in Gaspé Anglican Church. [1] Their known children are (Source: Censuses):

  3. Sybil, 1863
  4. Priscilla, 1865
  5. Melinda, 1868
  6. Benjamin, 1870 - before 1881
  7. Mary, 1874
  8. Sarah, 1876
  9. Emma Rita, 1879
  10. John S, 1882

In 1861, Élias and Rachel have 2 children: Amelia (Matilda), 2 and Elias, 1 year old. [2]

In 1871, to Matilda and Elias, were added: Sybil, 8; Priscilla, 6; Melinda, 3 years old and Benjamin, 9 months. [3]

In 1881, are still at home: Matilda, Elias, Sybil, Priscilla and Melinda. Did Benjamin died before? Three new little girls are now part of the family: Mary, 6; Sarah, 4 and Emmarita (Emma Rita), 1 year old. [4] * Rachel déclares to be 43 years old, born in Channel Islands.

In 1891, their last child, John S, 8 years old, is listed with his parents ans sisters Sarah and Emma Rita. [5]

She passed away at 73 years old in her home in Rosebridge with stomach cancer on Feb 9, 1913 and was buried 2 days later in the Methodist Church Cemetery of Gaspé. [6]
