Obituary

Everett (Ebb) Sexton, 84, of the Paint Rock community, passed away Friday morning, May 25, 1984, at the Scott County Hospital following a lingering illness.

Mr. Sexton was the son of the late John Freeman Sexton and the late Emily Phillips Sexton and was also preceded in death by his wife, Clona Laxton Sexton; one son, John Roy Sexton; and two sisters: Artha and Oma Sexton.

Mr. Sexton was a disables coal miner and a United States Army veteran of World War I. He was also a member of the Paint Rock Baptist Church since 1919.

He is survived by three daughters: Mrs Claude (Arthona Louise) Coffey of Huntsville, Mrs. Jess (Euncie Mae) Weaver of the Paint Rock community, and Mrs. Hubert (Lorena) Phillips of Rt. 1, Helenwood; one son, Lou Nova Sexton of Huntsville; one sister, Mrs. Schofield (Opha) Sexton of the Paint Rock community; three brothers: Ezra Sexton of Rt. 1, Helenwood, and Eamer and Arlin Sexton, both of the Paint Rock community; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Paint Rock Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, with Rev. Larry Sexton and Roger Cecil officiating. Claudia Tillman, Debbie Stephens, Lou Nova Sexton, and the Paint Rock Baptist Church Choir sang. Burial followed in the Sexton Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were: James E. Coffey, Tony Coffey, Todd Gilbert, Ronnie Lee Phillips, Rodney Stephens, Kelvin Phillips, Roy Danny Sexton, Tony Lambert, and Randy Stephens. Honorary pallbearers were: Rick Sexton, John Roy Sexton, Jr., Jerry Wayne Sexton, Trent Coffey, Tim Smith, Jamie Sexton, and Johnny Sexton.

West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
