James was slain by Indians in August 1747. His wife and children returned to Biddeford, where her parents still lived. The young McFarlands grew up there. In 1747 the town of Brunswick rented the McFarland garrison house for the use of the Rev. Thomas Dunlap. Dunlap lived there for several years before having his own house. The McFarland house was taken down before the close of the Indian War. James and his wife had 4 children. They were:
(78.) Polly Mary; (79.) James, d. 1816(?), m. 1770 Margaret (Smith); (80.) Thomas, d. 1824, m. 1770 Jane (Smith); (81.) Margaret, believed to have married James Smith of Londonderry, N.H., brother to Margaret and Jane Smith.
