Robert Naunton was born about 1563 at Alderton in Suffolk, son of Henry Naunton [1]and his first wife, Elizabeth Ashby.[2] [3]He was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge obtaining a BA in 1583 and an MA in 1586 [1]before going on to Lincoln's Inn. His wife to whom he was married by the 29th of September 1619 was Penelope Perrot, daughter of Thomas Perrot and his wife, Dorothy Devereux. She was widow of Sir William Lower. Penelope bore him a son who died in Robert's lifetime, and a daughter. [2]
Robert died on the 27th of March 1635, [1]and was buried at Letheringham. [2] His will is here
Robert Naunton wrote Fragmentia Regalia, published in 1641 in which he claimed, on the basis of appearance, that his wife's grandfather, Sir John Perrot, was an illegitimate son of Henry VIII. [6]
