The following iInformation taken from the book, "Catholic Church Records of the Pacific Northwest, St Paul, Vols. I, II, II." " Manson was born in Scotland and joined the Hudson's Bay Company at the age of 19 as a clerk. In 1825 he was transferred from the eastern side of the Rockies to the western, and there spent the rest of his days, except for a visit to Scotland for a year. "That ramping highlander", as Trader John Tod called him, was vigorous builder and post master with something of a heavy hand. His posts included Fort Langley, Fort George, Fort McLoughlin, Kamloops, Stikine and Stuart Lake. In 1857 he retired to a farm at Champoeg, where he died in 1880. He married Felicite, eldest daughter of Etienne Lucier, and reared a family of seven children. His grave is unmarked in the community cemetery at Champoeg".
